The Stations of the Cross Restoration Project for the new St. Clare of Assisi Church in Coquitlam
Local Coquitlam artist, Patricia Ballard has completed the restoration of 14 Stations of the Cross for the newly constructed St. Clare of Assisi church in Coquitlam which officially opened on December 12, 2016.
The Stations originally came from Mary the Queen Parish in Richardsville, New Brunswick and were purchased by Fr. Craig Scott, then pastor of St. Clare of Assisi parish, and shipped to Coquitlam for the new church. These Stations, circa 1945, measure 22” x 26”, are cast in plaster and depict the Passion of Christ.
Patricia, parishioner of St. Clare of Assisi, worked 300 art hours on them and was assisted by Coquitlam artists Ana Maria Silva, Frank C. Turner, and art student Karina Greenwood. Patricia, Ana Maria and Frank are all members of The Epiphany Sacred Arts Guild, a B.C. Society of artists and associates which promotes the practice and appreciation of sacred arts in conformity with the magisterium of the Catholic Church.
St. Clare of Assisi Church is located at 1320 Johnson St., Coquitlam, B.C. and the opening ceremony, officiated by Archbishop Michael Miller, took place at 7:00 p.m. on Dec. 12, 2016.
